1. Remote XT

Location: United Kingdom

Remote XT is a service that is activated by the owner when he calls the service center once it is stolen. It will emit a loud, piercing sound (rumored to be a woman screaming), clears the data from the SIM card, locks down the buttons and displays a message that reads, ?This phone is stolen.?

2. Theft Aware

Location: Germany

Made by ITAgents, Theft Aware detects any change off the mobile’s SIM card. If a third person exchanges the SIM card (for example if the mobile phone was stolen), the mobile phone will contact it’s real owner by SMS notification to a definable phone number. (Similar software technology exists in PhoneBak and Eye on Thief. Read further)

4. RIM Holster Sensor

6. Xilinx

Location: USA

Xilinx makes a programmable chip that allows cell phone operators to remotely disable the handset with a password. When the phone is stolen, the owner can call the service operator, give them the password code and the handset will be useless to the thief. When recovered, the action can be reversed to make the cell phone usable.

7. PhoneBAK

Location: Singapore

PhoneBak is a software program that is put into your cell phone or PDA. The program works quietly in the background by automatically checking on the SIM card constantly. When the SIM card is swapped, the software will send an SMS message back to pre-defined cell phones numbers with the thief?s contact number.

8. Eye on Thief

Location: China

Eye On Thief is a shareware based software that will automatically send SMS alarms with the new phone number after SIM card is changed out by the thief. It operates similarly to PhoneBak and has support for multiple SIM cards on the same phone.

9. Text Bomb

Location: USA

Developed by the University of California, USA. This technology enables the owners to bombard the stolen cell phone with enough SMS text messages to cause the phone to shut itself down and render it useless. This is likened to a kind of a DoS (Denial of Service) virus attack on your phone.
