convertdiesel.gifThis should put a smile on those lobbying for alternative fuel. The Organic Mechanic has come up with a way to have alternative fuel for vehicles using cooking oil instead of diesel.

The usage of cooking oil is brought about by using a proprietary kit called the SuVO Conversion Kit. The SuVO Conversion Kit works by transferring heat from the radiator system to your vegetable oil tank and fuel lines. An electric heater heats the VegOil Fuel Filter at the same time. The heat thins the vegetable oil to a temperature that is appropriate to replace diesel fuel, which will be indicated by the installed Green2Go light on your dash. At this time you flip a switch to activate the fuel valve, and you running are on vegetable oil. Shut down the vehicle on diesel fuel to purge the lines; a reminder buzzer will sound if you forget. The SuVO conversion kit claims to reduce fuel emission by approx. 40-70%.

Prices will depend on what kind of parts your vehicle needs. The Organic Mechanic also offers a $1000 installation service too where you can bring your vehicle to Indiana or have a technician drive to you (extra travel charges may apply). With the installation services, you will get a system design prior to installation, consideration of winter climate conditions, personal session describing the parts, functions, and maintenance of your system, 1 Year Installation Service Warranty and 24-Hour Phone Technical Support.

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) released its list of the 12 greenest vehicles of 2007.

The sexy Toyota PriusThe least dirty dozen are (in no particular order): Honda Civic GX, Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid, Nissan Altima Hybrid, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Fit, Kia Rio5, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic. They are featured at CNET Networks Reviews so if you are in the market for a hybrid car that runs on both petrol and electricity, don’t hesitate to find out what CNET has to say about the cars.

As for myself, I’d always prefer Toyota Prius for several reasons. She is simply gorgeous and sexy… the kind of car that would always make my head turn just like a beautiful girl would. More than that, Toyota is the leader in the green car technology and Prius had matured from a prototype model to a production model that should give a lot of confidence to prospective owners.

….the Prius continues to be a hit thanks to its sophisticated parallel hybrid power system and excellent gas mileage. The Prius is rated as an advanced technology partial zero emissions vehicle (AT-PZEV), thanks to its ability to run on either its 500-volt battery pack or its 1.5-liter gasoline engine. If you drive carefully in the city, the EPA reckons you can squeeze 60mpg out of it.
