Techstars is an event that allows startups to get their idea off the ground by providing them with some capital in exchange for 5% of initial equity.

Treat it like a mixture between a startup boot camp and a competition of Tech Startups. The chosen startups are brought together in one place for 3 months, given $5000 (per founder up to 3 founders), mentors for product advice and strategy and a chance to pitch your ideas to angle investors and venture capitalists. The result will be the formation of 10 new companies at the end of the summer.

Within the 3 months, they’ll provide you with free legal advice, working (office) space, web hosting accounts and a few other perks. The rest of the food and living expenses will be spent from the money they give you.

Application to Techstars is as simple as answering 28 questions and (if chosen) you’ll be invited to join the select group of *stars* in Colorado, a step closer to have your business funded.
